First team

As Swansea City get set to host Ipswich Town on Saturday (3pm), we look back at some previous meetings between the clubs.

Here we recall past encounters in the Championship and the old Division One.

Swans 4 Ipswich 1

Championship – April 4, 2011

Brendan Rodgers’ Swansea City side secured their place in the Championship play-offs as they were inspired by on-loan Chelsea forward Fabio Borini.

Borini tucked home the fifth goal of his stint as a Swan to give the home side the lead before Luke Moore added a second.

Colin Healey pulled a goal back for the visitors before Borini scored his second of the game with less than 30 minutes on the clock.

Scott Sinclair came off the bench in the second half and slotted home his 23rd goal of the season from the penalty spot to put the result beyond doubt.

Swans 3 Ipswich 0

Championship – February 2, 2009

A brace from Jason Scotland helped Roberto Martinez’s Swans side extend their unbeaten streak to 15 games in style at the Liberty Stadium.

Trinidad & Tobago striker Scotland put the Swans in front after just two minutes and then netted his 16th goal of the season late on, showing great strength to hold off a defender before firing home.

Martinez’s men weren’t finished there, with Jordi Gomez adding a third in stoppage time, as he curled a fantastic free-kick past Ipswich goalkeeper Richard Wright.

Swans 1 Ipswich 1

First Division – April 29, 1983

John Toshack’s Swans side were heading back to the second tier as their stint as a top-flight drew to a close after just two season.

But they secured a hard-earned point against an Ipswich side managed by future England boss Bobby Robson at Vetch Field.

The visitors took the lead in the second half through Paul Mariner, but the Swans’ perseverance paid off when substitute Colin Pascoe’s corner was met by Ante Rajkovic and he levelled the scores.
