Potter staying patient with Fer

Graham Potter says Swansea City must stay patient with Leroy Fer despite his rapid return to first-team action.

Fer was a shock name on the Swans teamsheet against Preston last weekend, when he came off the bench for the final 15 minutes and helped his team close out a 1-0 win.

It was the midfielder’s first appearance since he ruptured his Achilles at Leicester back in February.

Fer’s comeback was ahead of schedule, and Potter plans to remain cautious with the man he has made Swans captain.

“Leroy had been feeling good this week but we just need to keep nurturing him and make sure he is not doing too much,” said the Swans manager.

“He has done brilliantly and the medical department have done brilliantly to get him back, but the trick now is for him to get minutes on the pitch.

“Coming on as a substitute is probably the level he is at right now. He isn’t available to start yet – it’s too soon – but we will try to build him up.

“We are glad to have him because he is a positive character around the place.”
