Swansea City Ladies resume their Welsh Premier Women’s League title defence as Aberystwyth make the trip from West Wales to Llandarcy this afternoon (2pm).

Colin Staples’ side haven’t been in action since November, which saw the season suspended due to Wales being put under tier 4 lockdown restrictions.

The Swans currently sit in second place in the table, with a maximum 12 points from four matches, with only Cardiff Met ahead on goal difference; the Archers have played one more game.

Aberystwyth have struggled so far this season and sit at the bottom with one point from five matches, which they earned in a 1-1 stalemate with Briton Ferry last Sunday.

Colin Staples

Colin Staples: “I am excited and I am looking forward to it. The way we have been training I think the girls are more than up for it.

“The form before the lockdown was great but at the moment that doesn’t count for anything, we are back to square one.

“It is almost like the season is starting again, so we just have to go for it; as I said right at the beginning of the season, ‘we aren’t defending our title, we are attacking it’.

“Considering what we have been through, the preparations have gone as well as they can.”

Nieve Jenkins

The previous meeting between the Swans and the Seasiders was back in February 2020, and ended with a 5-1 victory as Swansea came away from west Wales with all three points despite falling behind through Libby Isaac’s early opener.

The Swans levelled the scores quickly when Stacey John-Davis tapped it in after being picked out by a cutback from Lauren Smith.

Second-half with goals from Katy Hosford, Smith, Kelly Adams and Nieve Jenkins secured a commanding win.
