Swansea city Ladies celebrate a goal

Super sub Chloe Chivers followed in the footsteps of Sam Surridge by scoring a last-gasp winner on Sunday as Swansea City Ladies beat Abergavenny 2-1.

A day after Surridge came off the bench to head home the winner for Steve Cooper’s side at Wigan, Chivers did the same as she handed Swans Ladies a second consecutive Welsh Women’s Premier League Cup victory.

Summer signing Chivers fired home her first goal for the club from a tight angle as the Swans looked to respond to Abergavenny’s 89th-minute equaliser.

It sealed a frantic finish to this tie, which had seen Ian Owen’s side lead through Katy Hosford’s 51st-minute header.

The game was level at the break despite Hosford going close with an early free-kick, while Emma Beynon, Stacey John-Davis and Ria Hughes all being denied by the Aber keeper.

But Hosford’s opener from Ellie Lake’s cross gave the Swans a deserved lead.

The scorer was replaced soon after by Chivers, who immediately tested the hosts keeper with a shot which was tipped onto the crossbar.

But Aber’s late goal threatened the Swans’ 100 per cent record this season, with Ceri Hudson finding the net from a free-kick.

More drama followed, though, with Sarah Adams’ cross finding Chivers, who powered her shot into the inside of the far post to earn the Swans victory.

Abergavenny provide the opposition again this Sunday with the Swans back in Welsh Women’s Premier League action at Llandarcy (2pm).
