Swansea City Ladies celebrate a goal

Swansea City Ladies maintained their perfect start to the season after they beat Port Talbot Town 2-0 in a physical affair at Victoria Road Stadium.

An early goal from Sarah Adams got the Swans off to a flyer and a 51st minute wonder volley from Katy Hosford successfully protected the Swans’ 100 per cent record this season.

The only change from the 18-0 win in the FAW Women’s Cup over Aberdare was Sarah Adams returning to the starting line-up.

Swansea were quick off the mark and broke the deadlock with only two minutes played. Hosford’s drilled cross found Stacy John-Davis and her header was blocked, however, Adams was quick to react to nod it home.

John-Davis went close to doubling the visitors’ lead after she found herself in a one-on-one situation with Port Talbot keeper Victoria Beddows, but the Swans striker was denied.

The Swans were awarded a penalty in the closing stages of the first half after Hosford was taken out by Jessie Rose Taylor, but she was denied by the woodwork.

Hosford made up for her penalty miss in the first half by bagging her 15th goal of the season in style. She smashed home a volley in off the post from a tight angle which gave the keeper no chance.

Emma Beynon went within inches of making it 3-0 but she was denied by the crossbar, while, at the other end, Swans stopper Deanna Lewis had to be alert to parry Laura May Walkley’s shot away from danger.

The final action of the game saw sub Cerys Bevan have a chance to sign off in style.

Great build up play by Ria Hughes and Hosford started a promising move for Ian Owen’s side with the latter crossing to Bevan in the middle of the area, but her poked attempt on goal went straight at the goalkeeper.

Next up is a trip to North Wales on Sunday to face Llandudno Ladies in the Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup (2pm).
