Swansea city Ladies celebrate a goal

Swansea City Ladies booked their place in the third round of the FAW Women’s Cup in emphatic fashion after an 18-0 demolition of Aberdare Town at Llandarcy.

Katy Hosford and Stacey John-Davis both scored four goals for the current Welsh Premier Women’s League leaders, a hat-trick from Kelly Adams, a brace for Emma Beynon and goals from Shaunna Jenkins, Nieve Jenkins, Lauren Smith, Ria Hughes and Alicia Powe completed the win.

Sunday’s victory, which also saw new signing Tija Richardson come off the bench for the second half, means the Swans maintain their 100 per cent record this season.

Swansea started with intent as Hosford struck the post inside the first minute.

The strong start was rewarded in the fourth minute after Beynon was able to tap in Chloe Chivers’ low cross from close range.

John-Davis nearly doubled the lead for the home side, but the Aberdare keeper Megan Wordingham was able to deny the striker in a one-on-one situation.

John-Davis made up for her missed chance as she was able to turn the ball in after Hosford’s cross created a goal line scramble.

The Swans began to build a healthy lead after Hosford switched from creator to scorer as she found the back of the net after being picked out in the box by Chivers.

John-Davis bagged her second of the game in the 18th minute as she tapped home Hosford’s  header across the face of goal.

Soon after, Hosford also registered her second of the afternoon when she squeezed her shot in at the near post from a tight angle.

Ian Owen’s side recorded their sixth of the match after Hosford’s deep delivery into the box found Shaunna Jenkins, who headed in from within the six-yard box.

Just before the break, Lauren Smith volleyed from just inside the penalty area to sign off a fantastic half.

Straight after the restart Ria Hughes added to the Swans’ lead when Hosford’s shot rebounded back off the post and fell kindly to the feet of the left-back, who remained calm to finish the opportunity.

Five minutes later Beynon added to her side’s tally by finding the far corner of the goal from an acute angle whilst under pressure from the defender.

Kelly Adams also got in on the act as she found the net before captain Alicia Powe headed home Hosford’s pinpoint delivery.

With just over an hour played John-Davis secured her hat-trick. Hughes’ shot was blocked but John-Davis was quickest to react and rolled it in on the turn.

Minutes later Adams found herself with time and space on the edge of the box and struck it sweetly into the side netting which gave the keeper no chance.

Hosford compiled more misery on the visitors with her third before Adams secured her hat-trick after confusion in the Aberdare penalty area saw her soft effort trickle in.

Substitute Nieve Jenkins’ made it 16-0 when her effort struck the crossbar and bounced just over the line before John-Davis added her fourth late on.

The last play of the game saw Hosford brought down in the area for a penalty which she stepped up and slammed it into the top-right corner for her fourth goal of the day.
