Swansea City Ladies continued their perfect start to the Welsh Premier Women’s League campaign with a 3-0 win over Aberystwyth Town.

A second goal of the season for Stacey John-Davis, a strike from Katy Hosford and an own goal by Nia Witts ensured Ian Owen’s side backed up their opening-day win over defending champions Cardiff Met with a convincing victory in Llandarcy.

The Swans started brightly after a cleared corner fell directly to Shaunna Jenkins, whose effort whistled past the post.

John-Davis took on three Aberystwyth defenders and played a simple pass to Emma Beynon who managed to get her shot off despite being shut down. Her effort, however, dragged wide.

In the closing stages of the first half a through ball from Ellie Lake put John-Davis in and she calmly dribbled around the keeper and placed it into the net.

At the start of the second half the hosts doubled their lead in fortuitous circumstances as

Hosford’s shot took a huge deflection off Witts to wrong foot former Swan Ffion Ashman.

Ashman prevented the visitors from going further behind after she reacted rapidly to parry Sarah Adam’s powerful strike from point-blank range to safety.

In the 76th minute, Hosford made sure of victory when she thumped her effort into the top-left corner.

John-Davis had a chance to bag a brace, but she could only divert her close-range header wide of the post.

But that was of little consequence as Swansea, who saw Wales international Chloe Chivers come off the bench in the final 14 minutes to make her debut, picked up the win after a dominant performance.

Next up the Swans welcome their South Wales rivals Cardiff City to Llandarcy for their opening WPWL Cup match on Sunday, September 29 (2pm).
