Shaunna Jenkins was delighted with the spirit on display from Swansea City Ladies as they fought back to defeat Cardiff Met 2-1 in their Genero Adran Premier opener.

The Swans fell behind in the first half after Emily Allen found the far corner, but the two-time defending champions dug deep in the second half to take all three points away from Cyncoed Campus courtesy of goals from Stacey John-Davis and Jenkins.

It was Jenkins who scored the last-gasp winner - converting the rebound after her penalty struck the crossbar -  and, while inevitably ecstatic to get on the scoresheet, she put the win down to the collective performance.

“We have just come back from the Champions League, and we did really well there, so naturally we wanted to keep our standards high,” said the defender.

“In the first half we were a bit nervy, but the second half came, and we showed Met exactly what Swansea are about.

“As soon as the second half came, we knew we had to pull our socks up and show them why we won the title the last two seasons.

“Everyone works hard for each other on and off the pitch.

“Obviously, we got two goals and I was thankful to get the penalty even though it came off the crossbar, but luckily it came back to me.

“We only ever get through it as a squad and as a club and we proved that today.”

“It was nice getting a goal in such a big game even though it was a rebound from a penalty, but a goal is a goal at the end of the day.”
