Steve Cooper expects Wycombe response at Adams Park

Steve Cooper is expecting Swansea City to face a Wycombe Wanderers backlash when they head to Adams Park this weekend.

The newly-promoted Chairboys are looking for their first point in their maiden season in the second tier, having lost their opener to Rotherham before suffering a heavy defeat at Blackburn last weekend.

But Swansea head coach Cooper does not expect heads to have dropped given Gareth Ainsworth’s side enjoyed such a successful end to last season as they sealed their play-off triumph at Wembley.

And he knows the visitors will be facing an opponent keen to quickly put recent disappointments behind them.

“It’s easy to forget Wycombe drew with Brentford in the League Cup (before losing on penalties), in a game where both sides pretty much had first teams out,” said Cooper.

“Then their first league game was a very tight game where the result could have gone either way, and they had a difficult result last week.

“But, like any team, when you are on the end of a poor result you always want to put it right the next week, and that’s what we expect to be up against.

“They have been highly successful over the last few years playing the way they play, and a lot of that comes from team spirit and togetherness.

“They had a bad day and will be up for putting it right, and we have to be ready for it.

“There is nothing straightforward about any game in the Championship. We will focus on ourselves, but we are aware of their strengths.

“We also know how we can win the game and we have to commit to that.”
