Steve Cooper | Focus key to extending unbeaten home run

Head coach Steve Cooper has urged Swansea City keep their focus to ensure they further extend their impressive home record against Preston this afternoon (3pm).

The Swans face Alex Neil’s visitors on the back of a 12-match unbeaten streak in Championship fixtures in SA1.

Extend that sequence against the Lilywhites and it will be Swansea’s longest run of home league games without defeat dating since a 13-match stretch in 2011.

Cooper knows there is a confidence and enjoyment in his squad when it comes to performing at the Liberty, but wants the Swans to make sure there is no complacency on show against a Preston side without a win in 17 league visits to Swansea.

“We absolutely want to continue that record because if you can be a force at home that can only be a good thing,” he said.

“But we have to make sure we control what we have in front of us. You only keep it going if you don’t fall into the trap of assuming that because you are at home you are going to win a football match.

“That’s what we want to be the case every single day of our training and games. We have to be motivated and determined to get the best out of every day, this game is no different.

“I have said before - and I will keep saying it week in and week out – that if we get it right on any given day I believe we can win any game.

“A lot of things have to go right for that to be the case, but we are more than capable and let’s hope this game is a good example of that.

“The boys obviously enjoy their football at the Liberty, confidence should be high, training levels have been really good.

“There is no reason why come 3pm on Saturday we should not be ready.”
