Steve Cooper insists Swansea City’s league position will not affect their desire to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup when they face Stevenage this afternoon.

The Swans head to the Lamex Stadium to take on the League Two side in the third round of the famous old knock-out competition.

Cooper’s men travel in good spirits on the back of a run of one defeat in eight league games, a sequence that has put them second in the Championship table.

But the head coach does not want progress in the league to be any sort of excuse for a failure to perform in Hertfordshire.

It may be a different competition, but Cooper is determined his side continue to show the mentality that has them well-placed early in 2021, even if progress requires the rescheduling of upcoming league games.

“I don’t see it as a problem, it’s the FA Cup and we want to be in it,” he said.

“We need to win on Saturday, that’s the most important thing and we will show maximum respect to Stevenage.

“If we get through and we have a bridge to cross, it won’t be a problem.

I think there’ll be some changes. I don’t think it’ll be wholesale. All of the squad will go to Stevenage because I think we're in good momentum.

“Regardless of it being the league or cup, we just want to keep things going to keep everybody engaged.

“We just want to keep improving and striving to get better. We want to win and play well."
