Steve Cooper was proud of the character and resilience his Swansea City side showed as they finished a challenging week on a high with a 2-0 win over Luton Town.

Goals from Connor Roberts and Andre Ayew saw the Swans bounce back from their midweek defeat at Middlesbrough, with the hosts completing an eighth clean sheet in 16 games.

Coming on the back of long trips to Nottingham and Teesside, Cooper had acknowledged there were tired legs after the travelling and quick turnarounds.

All of which added to his delight at seeing his side come out in top in a hard-fought contest.

“I am very pleased with the result and large parts of the performance,” said the head coach.

Luton celebration

“It was not easy, and I don’t think any game will be in this schedule. We were in Nottingham last Sunday, Middlesbrough on Wednesday and just over 48 hours later we are playing again.

“It is what it is, but it means there are no straightforward games for anyone, so to show that character and resilience to score two goals and get a clean sheet is a really good sign of the mentality in the dressing room.

“We showed enough quality and resilience to get the result and I am pleased with that.

“We started the game well and I was frustrated we did not manage to carry on that momentum.

“We fought it out well there for the rest of the game.”
