Steve Cooper | We enjoyed the win, but our mentality has to be right

Steve Cooper believes Swansea City’s trip to face Derby County will be a good test of their mentality following their South Wales derby at the weekend.

The Swans claimed the bragging rights at Cardiff City Stadium, with a brace from Jamal Lowe underlining a dominant performance in a 2-0 win.

The result continued the Swans good form, moving them up to third in the table, added a 10th clean sheet to their tally for the season and made it seven years since they last lost a derby.

It was a result head coach Cooper wanted his players and fans to enjoy but, with a trip to Pride Park looming on Wednesday, knows his squad must retain their focus.

“It’s all about the Derby game now, that is where my focus is, and it will be the same for the players and staff,” he said.

Cardiff huddle

“We’ve had a good result and an excellent performance, and it is one we have to enjoy because of how important the game is.

“But we know there is another tough game coming on Wednesday, as is the way of things in the Championship, and we have to make sure we are ready for that.

“It’s a good test of our mentality really because we’ve had a good day, with a result and performance, but that’s no good if we do not turn up ready to go at Derby.

“The players have shown a tremendous attitude and application since I’ve been here, and I am sure it will be no different.”
