Steve Cooper | We have the ability to adapt
Steve Cooper believes the make-up of his Swansea City squad offers plenty of flexibility and tactical options for the season ahead.
The Swans have made five signings so far this summer, with Korey Smith, Freddie Woodman, Morgan Gibbs-White, Marc Guehi and Jamal Lowe all joining ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
Under Cooper, Swansea switched between a 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 set-up, before also utilising a 3-4-3 system which proved effective during the strong run of form that earned them a play-off place.
Supporters will of course be keen to see how the Swans start the new season, but Cooper believes the variety of options available to him means his side will be able to pose and answer a number of questions.
“We know Jamal can play through the middle or wide, and so can Wayne Routledge, Jordon Garrick and Andre Ayew,” said the head coach, as his side get set to face Forest Green Rovers this afternoon in their final pre-season friendly.
“I think the main thing for us is to commit to how we want to play, but obviously with the ability to adapt, whether that is with three at the back or four at the back.
“We have different options available to us, but the key part of it is we have to believe in what we are doing, no matter the system.
“We have to have that belief and hope our football and our way of playing serves us well.”
