Steve Cooper | We want to perform strongly for the amazing community we represent

Steve Cooper wants Swansea City to put their Luton disappointment behind them and underline their desire to give the local community reasons to cheer against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Swans are back in action at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday as they take on the Owls in a midday kick-off.

The hosts remain tantalisingly close to the play-off spots, sitting just four points off the top six with six games remaining in the Championship season following the midweek draw at Millwall.

Since the return to action following a three-month suspension of football owing to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Swans have taken four points from nine, with their only defeat coming in SA1 against the Hatters.

Cooper made clear his frustration with that performance, and is looking for a big improvement this weekend to put smiles on the faces of the Jack Army amidst tough times.

“We have to focus on ourselves and commit to our plan to get the job done. This is a time to look at yourself and being at your best,” said Cooper.

“We have been mixed since we have come back and we have to work as hard as we can.

“We have to give our best, try to win games and play our way because life is difficult at the moment.

“We are still in a pandemic, and there is a lot of hard stories to come out over the last few months, and that’s why the Luton game was so frustrating.

“You don’t want to lose any game, although obviously you understand you can, but you have to show you are fighting and giving your best for an amazing community.

“That has to be the intention, and if we back that up with good performances we will give ourselves a chance.”
