Swansea City International round-up | November 2021

Dan Williams Wales

Swansea City’s Daniel Williams scored his first goal for Wales Under-21s as a number of the club’s players joined up with their national teams during the November break.

Midfielder Williams was among the scorers as Wales beat Gibraltar 7-0 to record their biggest-ever victory at under-21 level, before Paul Bodin’s side suffered defeat to Switzerland in the second of this month’s European qualifiers.

Swans defender Brandon Cooper skippered the side, while Lewis Webb and Ben Margetson were also part of the squad.

Seb Dabrowski and Ben Lloyd, meanwhile, were part of the Wales Under-17s squad that headed to Portugal for a trio of European qualifiers.

They opened up with a 3-1 win over Ukraine in Group 11, before a 2-0 defeat to Portugal and a 1-1 draw with Kazakhstan that left them third in the four-team table.

However, their record against the top two teams in the group (Ukraine and Portugal) means they have qualified for March’s elite round of qualifying as one of the best third-placed sides.

Ryan Manning was not involved for the Republic of Ireland as they drew with Portugal and beat Luxembourg to end their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Goalkeeper Jamie Searle, meanwhile, was part of the New Zealand senior squad for the first time, but did not feature in their friendlies against Algeria and Gambia.
