Treble-winning captain Tija Richardson has returned to Swansea City Ladies after joining from Cardiff Met.

The centre-back rose through the youth ranks with the Swans before going on to feature in the club’s Champions League exploits.

Richardson also went on to play a starring role for fellow Welsh Premier Women’s League side Port Talbot before captaining Cardiff Met to a domestic treble last season.

That saw her feature in the Champions League once again, but now Richardson has opted to return home and join a team that has a perfect record of seven wins from seven in all competitions.

“Swansea are a very good footballing side; they have been my rivals for years but for me it was the team that I needed to come to,” she said.

“People have been really lovely and congratulating me, so for me it was the best move.”

Manager Ian Owen was delighted with the acquisition of Richardson as he bolsters his defence which has conceded just one goal this season.

“Tija is a fantastic player - she’s really experienced and has a good track record of winning trophies,” said the Swans boss.

“She has played for us before she played for Cardiff Met so she knows exactly what the club is about, and everybody is really excited to add another quality player to the group.”
