Vickers spreads the word about Reading Stars

Young Swansea City keeper Josh Vickers has been spreading the word to pupils about the importance of reading.
After helping Swans Under-21s to a 5-3 win over Newcastle on Monday night, Vickers paid a special visit to Ysgol Gymraeg Dyffryn y Glowyr along with club ambassador Lee Trundle as part of the Premier League Reading Stars Scheme.



The pair spoke about the importance of reading, while they also held a Q&A session about their playing careers.
Aiming to use the draw of the Premier League to inspire a love of literacy in reluctant readers, the scheme is now in its 13th year and has proved successful by increasing the level of children who enjoy reading by 50%.
And the visit proved as popular with Vickers as it did the schoolchildren from the Swansea school.



"It's always nice to come into the schools and see the pupils that are doing really well with the PLRS scheme," said Vickers.
"I wish I had something like this when I was at school. I think a lot more kids get into reading because of programmes like this.
"It's good because there's two sides to it - they want to be outside playing sport and it encourages that, but also there's another side to it and you've got to be in the classroom and an interest in reading really helps that."
