Vitor Matos | We have put a good base in place
Vitor Matos' focus may be on Saturday's Championship finale against Charlton Athletic, but the head coach is confident Swansea City will head into the off-season with a very strong base to build on ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
The Portuguese has overseen an upturn in fortunes since his appointment in November, with home form being particularly strong as Swansea boast the fourth-best home record in the division since his arrival.
Away results have also picked up in recent weeks, and Matos has been pleased with how his side have progressed over the last five months or so.
And he believes the foundations are there to be built on in the months ahead.
"It has been a challenging season, but we have shown a lot of growth and development, and we have taken steps towards where we want to be and what we want to become," he said.
"That's very important, we are building something that gives us very good foundations for the future.
"There's a lot of things we can improve on, the season is finishing and the first thing everyone needs to do is to rest and recover.
"Then we have to come back and be ready to have a proper push for next season. We know where we want to be.
"We will see how we build the squad, we know we need to be much more competitive in some specific games, and we need to be more dominant with the ball against some teams where we were not able to show that.
"We need to improve in that department, whilst also understanding there will be times you need to adjust and adapt to how the game unfolds in order to be as competitive as possible.
"There's a lot of good things, the foundations are there. We have the togetherness, we have the desire, the hunger to compete and the professionalism. We understand that everyone has an important role at every moment, that's why it is a team game."
Matos may have Zeidane Inoussa available to face the Addicks after the winger returned to full training.
However, he will be without Ethan Galbraith, Ishe Samuels-Smith and Sam Parker, although scans on the latter's hamstring injury have revealed it is not serious and he will be fit and ready in plenty of time for pre-season.
