Wayne Routledge believes the Jack Army’s fanatical supporters can drive the Swans on during the gruelling festive period.

Swans supporters were out in force once again last weekend as Graham Potter’s side came out on top in a five-goal thriller at Brentford.

More than 1,600 fans made the trip to London as goals from Routledge and Leroy Fer - plus a Chris Mepham own goal - put the Swans 3-0 up.

Ollie Watkins reduced the deficit before Said Benrahma’s sublime free-kick set up a tense finish, which saw sub Sergi Canos strike the crossbar in added time.

The Swans held on for victory, though, with Potter’s side quickly showing their appreciation to the away support behind the goal after the final whistle.

And Routledge, who made his 238th appearance for the club at Griffin Park, feels the Jack Army’s backing will be crucial in the upcoming fixtures with Sheffield Wednesday - at the Liberty on Saturday - Hull City, Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic and Reading over the Christmas and New Year period.

“We all know how well our fans support us,” said Routledge. “They are fanatical and we do need our 12th man at times.

“When times get tough, like they did at Brentford, we really need them, especially for our young players.

“When you feel people are with you it gives you that extra 10 per cent and that carried us through to the end of the game.

“It will be the same for the games coming up because there are a lot of matches in a short amount of time, so hearing the Jack Army singing away will give every single player a huge lift.”
