Steve Cooper insists Swansea City must remain calm and confident despite slipping to their third consecutive defeat on Friday night.

The Swans went down 1-0 to Birmingham City in the Midlands, with Scott Hogan’s injury-time penalty meaning Cooper’s side slipped nine points behind second-placed Watford, though they have a game in hand.

Their latest setback came on the back of losses to Bournemouth and Cardiff City – a run that has coincided with a failure to find the net.

Despite the recent defeats, Cooper believes his players must stay strong and believe in themselves as the season approaches a critical stage, with a home game against Preston next up on Monday.

“It’s three losses and three without a goal, but we’ve got to not lose confidence or start questioning,” said the Swans boss.

“The more points you drop now, it will get tougher and tougher as there’s less games to play.

“The three points become more and more important now, and we’re well aware of that.

“We are disappointed with this result, but we’ve got to make sure we draw a line under it and get ready for the next one.

“We have got to start working harder and prepare for Monday.”
