Academy continue cup defence

31st October

Swansea City Youth Academy continued their defence of the FAW Youth Cup with a 6-2 victory against Cambrian & Clydach Vale on Thursday night.

An Under-19 Swans side travelled to Cambrian & Clydach, hoping to make their way into the last 16 of the tournament, of which they have won for the last four years running.

Jamie Latham and Sam Evans both scored braces for the Swans, while Alex Samuel and Owain Jones also added their names to the score-sheet.

Academy manager Tony Pennock says he was delighted with the attitude shown by the Swansea youngsters, while also crediting Cambrian for their spirited performance.

"Although we should have made the result more comfortable earlier on, we have to give credit to Cambrian, who fought from the first whistle to the last.

"As has been the case in previous matches at their venue, they were excellent hosts.

"At times we played some excellent football without finishing off a number of passing sequences.

"However it's pleasing to see the players gaining in confidence after a run of defeats and not having the rub of the green recently.

"In the dressing room, it was pleasing to see smiling faces again and to hear some very good remarks from the players about their own performances.

"All of the staff were extremely pleased with the attitude of everyone in the squad, especially the members of the U21s who are still eligible for this U19 competition.

"Oliver Davies, Sam Evans, Josh Sheehan and Ryan Hedges were good examples of what we expect from all of our players, in terms of attitude and application."

The Swans are now set to play the winners of Merthyr and West End in the Round of 16.
