Ash toasts slick Swans

5th December 2013

Captain Ashley Williams toasted a solid team performance in the 3-0 win over Newcastle - and has now challenged the Swans to continue their form against Hull on Monday night.
Michael Laudrup's side saw off in-form Newcastle at the Liberty Stadium thanks to goals from substitute Nathan Dyer, an own goal from Mathieu Debuchy and a fantastic late strike courtesy of man-of-the-match Jonjo Shelvey.
It was a second home win of the season in the league for the Swans, who rose to 11th in the table thanks to this victory.
And with Hull providing the opposition in SA1 on Monday night (8pm), Williams is looking for a repeat performance as the Swans aim to make the most of their home double-header.

"It was a really important win for us, especially after the defeat at Man City last weekend," said Williams.
"We wanted to go out, perform and get the result, which we did. The performance was really good.
"It was great to get a cleansheet - we hadn't had one in a while - and it was nice to be at a stage in the game where we just had to see it out.
"From a defensive aspect we limited them to few chances, although Michel (Vorm) made a great save from (Loic) Remy's header.
"Our passing game was very fluid and the link-up play in midfield was very good.
"And, even though we didn't have a striker after Alvaro (Vazquez) went off injured I thought we looked good throughout.
"At a time like that everyone has to dig in and do what is required."
He added: "These two consecutive home games are against teams which we feel we can beat. We have managed to do half of the job thanks to beating Newcastle, but now we face a Hull side that has recently beaten Liverpool. So we are well aware of their quality.
"It's going to be a massive game again for us, just like the Newcastle match, so we will be working hard from now until Monday night to ensure we are ready for that game."
