Graham Potter believes Swansea City have laid some solid foundations as they build towards the new Championship season.

The Swans will begin life in the second tier in just four weeks’ time when they travel to Sheffield United.

And after his first week working with the players, new boss Potter is pleased with what he has seen.

“It’s been a really positive start,” he said.

“We were looking forward to meeting all the guys. In some ways you are wondering how they will be after the disappointment of last year, but I must say the players have come back with a really good attitude and worked really well.

“They are good lads and it’s been a really positive week.

“I have pretty much met everybody individually and had a chat with them. I thought it was important to do that after the disappointment of last year.

“I want to try to get to know the players a bit better. The meetings were good and then collectively on the pitch the players have worked really well.”

Potter was pleased with the fitness levels of the squad after they returned from their summer break.

Hence the Swans’ new management team have been able to get straight down business on the training ground, with the focus on tactical work right from the off.

“We are straight into developing the playing style,” Potter added.

“At this stage it’s about putting some ideas on the pitch about how we are going to play and also finding out what the players can do.

“At the same time we are building fitness towards the start of the season, which is only four weeks away.

“The boys have come back in good shape. They have had a break to clear their brains and now it’s a case of building that understanding of how we want to play.

“We have the first game at Yeovil next week which will help us, then we move from there to the tour and we carry on working.”
