Cabango to lead U18s at West Brom

30th November

Ben Cabango admits he is delighted to be given the opportunity to lead Swansea City’s Under-18s.

The 17-year-old defender will skipper the academy side once again when they face West Brom in their must-win Premier League Cup tie at WBA’s training ground on Friday (1pm).

Cabango was handed the captain’s armband this month after fellow centre-back Brandon Cooper took the step up to join the under-23s.

The young Swans must secure victory against the Baggies this week to have any hope of progressing to the knockout stage of the cup competition.

“We need to bounce back from our recent league defeats against Tottenham and Leicester,” Cabango said.

“We have to win this game and hope that Derby drop points in order to progress from the group, so we know what we need to do. It is all focus on ourselves and our performance.

“To lead the team is a huge honour and fantastic experience. This is a big chance for me to step up and prove myself.

“We are going through a rough patch at the moment. So we have to keep our heads up, stay together and get some momentum back heading into December.”
