Monday's media round-up

Today's media round-up focuses on the Swans' victory at Southampton along with the latest stories surrounding transfer deadline day.
Jonjo Shelvey's stunning winner at St Mary's grabbed the attention with the local and national press, with the Guardian writing: "Ronald Koeman's team hogged possession against Swansea City but were punished for the impotence of their domination seven minutes from time when Jonjo Shelvey rammed a majestic shot into the net from 25 yards.
"Garry Monk's side needed to reassert their defensive solidity after two defeats in which they had shipped eight goals. They also had to demonstrate they could penetrate despite the sale of Wilfried Bony to Manchester City, the suspension of Gylfi Sigurdsson, the injury to Wayne Routledge and the loss to international duty of Ki Sung-Yueng - that quarter accounts for almost 80% of Swansea's league goals this season. The Welsh side came up trumps on both fronts."
The Telegraph, meanwhile, wrote: "It was Swansea's first win against Southampton in the Premier League and indeed their first against any team in the league since Boxing Day. After the two Manchester clubs, they are also the first club to win at St Mary's in the league this season."



Speaking to Wales Online, matchwinner Shelvey was keen to make the headlines for the right reasons in what was his first league game since serving a four-match suspension.
"My Dad said to me before the game, just make sure there are good headlines in the morning," revealed Shelvey.
"It was important for me personally to score. I've had a lot of people criticising me and getting on my back of late. I thought I was unlucky at Liverpool to get a four game suspension, but it is what it is. I'm just glad to be on the pitch helping the team.
"A lot of people have been looking for a reaction or to spark some kind of controversy. They have not got a clue what they are talking about. I try not to listen to them. Obviously I read things on social media, but I just try to block it out. I've got a great family at home.
"I spend most afternoons sitting indoors with my little girl. I don't listen, I'm not the kind of guy to get bothered."
Meanwhile, with the transfer window closing today, the rumour mill is in full flow.



The Express carries an interview with Swans boss Monk, who revealed he is looking to add to his squad before the deadline.
"I've made the club well aware of the ones I want to get in and obviously it's up to the chairman and the board to do those deals if possible.
"But I'm concentrating on the group I've got here as well and trying to improve them every single day and so far this season we've been doing that."
The South Wales Evening Post has linked the Swans with a move for a Romanian international.
They wrote: "Swansea City are again being linked with Stuttgart midfielder Alexandru Maxim as the clock ticks down on the transfer window.
"Garry Monk has admitted he wants to add at least one more new face to his squad before tonight's 11pm deadline.
"And Maxim has re-emerged as a possible target for the Swansea manager.
"Monk admitted earlier in the transfer window that he had looked at the 24-year-old Romanian international.
"Stuttgart have previously indicated that they do not want to lose Maxim, but it could be that Swansea go back in for the former Espanyol B player.
"Monk is thought to be eyeing a midfielder as well as a left-back as he bids to increase the competition in his squad, though there is no guarantee that any business will get done today."



Staying with the South Wales Evening Post, defender Neil Taylor has quashed rumours linking him with a move away from the club - revealing he wasn't even aware the transfer window was still open!
"As far as I'm concerned I'm at Swansea, I want to be at Swansea and that's that," said Taylor.
"I've kept my head down and am just playing football. The bids for me were rejected and as long as I'm wanted things stay as they are.
"Why does it close on February 2 anyway? Is it because there were games over the weekend?
"Has it happened before? I never knew that. I always thought it was the 31st. I think that tells you everything really - I thought it was closed."
