A local netball club were this week treated to a tour of the Liberty Stadium where they were presented with a SwansAid grant to fund the further development of the club.

Urdd Gobaith Netball Club were awarded £1,665.65 in our first round of funding for the 2017-18 season and will use the money to finance coaching education courses for coaches and volunteers as well as new equipment.

“It is fantastic to be awarded the SwansAid grant, and it will impact greatly upon the experiences of the members within the club, providing more and better opportunities for development,” said Jamie Price.

“It will provide positive experiences for the participants within the club, by allowing them to engage with a variety of new equipment that will include rebound nets to develop reaction speed, new netballs and training bibs.

“The grant will also develop the coaches’ and volunteers’ knowledge, ultimately providing better experiences for all members, and increasing their individual development within netball.”

The Urdd club provides opportunities for children to attend weekly netball sessions that are run through the medium of Welsh at Ysgol Gyfun Olchfa, with the aim of providing opportunities for children to engage with netball and the Welsh language within their local community.

“There are up to 30 members within the club, which meets every Thursday evening from 7pm onwards and is available to children in years 4 and 8 across two sessions. The club also play regular fixtures and tournaments. We look forward to developing the club further with the support of the SwansAid grant,” Price added.

“We would certainly recommend other clubs and organisations to apply to SwansAid. It can provide a great platform for development for successful clubs and organisations, and can support a variety of different projects across the regions.”
