Paul Clement savours moment with Swansea City fans

12th February

Paul Clement savoured the moment with Swansea City's fans after seeing his team beat Leicester City to take another step towards Premier League survival.
The Swans made it four victories in six games since Clement was appointed as goals late in the first half from Alfie Mawson and Martin Olsson secured what ultimately was a fairly comfortable 2-0 win.
And Clement could not hide his delight with a result which sees his team climb to 15th in the table, four points clear of the relegation places.
When the final whistle went, the Swans' head coach ran across the pitch to celebrate in front of the East Stand.
"The fans' response at the end was excellent," Clement said.

"They want to see their team doing well. They want to see their team working hard, looking organised, playing well and winning.
"I think they have seen some good results recently so they are happy.
"And for me, it was a very pleasing afternoon. I thought we really deserved the victory.
"We scored two really good goals and the one just before half-time gave us a lot of confidence.
"I was really pleased with the way we then saw the game out in the second half to get a positive result.

"I am very happy with the form of the team and the confidence of the team, although it's only a small step we have taken towards our objective and we have to keep working."
The Swans struggled to play any fluent football early on against Leicester, with the significance of the game making for a nervy contest.
But gradually, the home side began to improve, and the breakthrough came on 37 minutes when Mawson smashed home his third goal in six appearances.
The Swans doubled their lead in stoppage time before the break when a lovely move ended with Martin Olsson driving home his first goal for the club.
And though sub Islam Slimani forced a fine save from Lukasz Fabianksi in the second period, the Swans held out to secure a first clean sheet in 10 league matches.

"You are never comfortable at 2-0 because one goal can change the momentum of the game," Clement added.
"They had a couple of good moments and Fabianski made a good save.
"I didn't feel comfortable at any point, but maybe the players did because they saw the game out really well.
"You look at what Leicester did so well last year, and a lot of it was about being competitive and winning second balls, showing grit and determination.
"We said before the game that at the very least, we would have to match them in that area, and I thought the players showed they were up for the challenge today."

The one downside for the Swans after another morale-boosting result was an Achilles injury suffered by Nathan Dyer which saw the winger limp off after only seven minutes.
"We don't know how bad it is yet - we will have to have it scanned - but the initial prognosis is that it doesn't look good," Clement said.
