Potter pleased to see Swans show clinical edge

Graham Potter was delighted to see Swansea City showcase a clinical edge in their emphatic 4-1 victory over Reading.

The Swans made the ideal start to 2019 with a first win in four games, recording their biggest away league victory since May 2016.

Oli McBurnie grabbed a brace, with Connor Roberts and Mike van der Hoorn also on the scoresheet at the Madejski Stadium.

The visitors were ruthless in front of goal, making the most of their opportunities and punishing Reading when those chances came along.

And Potter hopes, after some frustrating results where the Swans had not made the most of periods of positive play, the manner of the win in Berkshire shows his side are learning from some of the tough lessons they have faced.

"We have been punished over the last few games, that's not making excuses, we have not taken chances," he said.

"I thought the first 20 minutes we played really well. 

"They had a bit of a spell, which we saw out and scored, and goals change the complexion of games.

"We did what we wanted to do in terms of attacking and defending, and it helps when you score.

"Because you can do well and you can have a 60-minute spell where you do quite well and score a goal, and then all of a sudden the opposition don't do too much, it's 1-1 and the game has completely changed.

"So for us we have learnt the hard way, and that's football, it's the hardest bit to do.

"It was our day today, we were worthy of the win and I am happy for the supporters and the players, in particular."
