Swansea City Under-18s suffered a heavy defeat to Colchester United Under-18s in the Professional Development League.

The young Swans fell to back-to-back loses for the first time in 2022, with two goals in each half sealing the win for the U’s.

Kai Redgrave netted a brace, while Matt Yates and Kacy Parish were also on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Charlie Veevers came close to putting the Swans ahead within the opening minutes, his curling effort from the edge of the box striking the outside of the post.

Keeper Tyler Evans was then called into action in the early stages, making fantastic saves from Redgrave and Parish within the opening 15 minutes.

But Redgrave would eventually put Colchester ahead, capitalising on a misplaced pass by Jada Mawonogo to curl a low effort into the bottom right corner.

Corey Hurford looked to level for Swansea, making an excellent run into the box before firing just wide of the post.

It would soon be two for Colchester, however, some good passing play down the right sending Yates through, with the right-back slotting home from close range.

Hurford came close once again just before the break, firing a low effort from the edge of the box that looked destined for the bottom corner, but Jaime Tedaldi made a great save to keep the visitors two-goal lead intact.

The U’s would make it three just after the break, Evans doing well to save Jaiden Drakes-Thomas initial shot, but Parish was on hand to tap in the rebound to make it three.

Swansea needed a response, and a ball flashed across the face of goal by Dan Watts just missed the outstretched foot of Iwan Morgan.

But it would be the U’s who would round off the scoring, Redgrave breaking to add his second of the afternoon.

The Swans continued to push despite the scoreline, with Veevers curling corner striking against the crossbar.

Hurford came close for the third time in the game, Aaron Hillier’s cross found the forward, but another excellent save kept him out once again.
