Shelvey salutes "perfect night"

Jonjo Shelvey hailed a perfect night for the Swans after his man-of-the-match display in the 3-0 home win over Newcastle.
The Swans got back to winning ways following last weekend's defeat at Manchester City by easing past the league's in-form side.
Shelvey played a big part in two of the three goals, with the midfielder seeing his effort rebound off Mathieu Debuchy and into the net to double the lead before the England international wrapped up the win with a sublime strike in the 82nd minute.
Those goals came after substitute Nathan Dyer - on for the injured Alvaro Vazquez, who was forced off with a groin problem - sent the Swans on their way with a 45th-minute volley.
And Shelvey was delighted with the way the Swans reacted following last weekend's loss at the Etihad Stadium.



"It has been a perfect night for us," said Shelvey. "We needed to get three points because we needed to turn all these home draws into wins and that's a good start tonight ahead of the Hull game on Monday.
"It was important to bounce back from the Man City game. The main thing was to get three points tonight, but we had the performance to go with it.
"We started very well tonight - we had space in midfield and I linked up very well with Alex (Pozuelo) and Pablo (Hernandez) with (Jose) Canas and Jono (de Guzman) behind. It's a pleasure to play with these guys.
"It's always hard when you've only got one fit striker, and when Alvaro went off injured the gaffer pulled me and Alex aside and told us to take it in turns to stretch their back-line. That's how the second goal came about with Alex putting a ball through for me, so it was great advice."
The Swans' third and final goal - Shelvey's third of the season - rounded off a hugely satisfying night for Michael Laudrup's side.
Shelvey curled home a sublime effort into the top corner from almost 25 yards just minutes after seeing a similar effort being kept out by keeper Tim Krul.
And the 21-year-old revealed his team-mates are helping him move closer to his goal target for the season.
"I set myself a target of ten, which will be difficult to reach, but if I keep hitting them like I did tonight then that could be achievable," he added.
"Jono turned the ball back and I thought 'hit it'. I had hit one before that - which I struck really well - but the keeper saved it, so to see the next effort drop in was a great feeling.
"But I just want to keep playing in this side. I wanted to keep myself in the team after playing at Man City.
"I'm playing in the position where I was at Charlton and, on occasions, at Liverpool. The further up the pitch I am the more damage I can do with the ball.
"I'm really enjoying playing here. Hopefully I can have a few more nights like this."
