Walsh upbeat ahead of FA Youth Cup tie

7th December

Winger Marc Walsh insists Swansea City Under-18s are growing in confidence ahead of their FA Youth Cup third-round tie with Aston Villa on Tuesday (7pm).

The academy Swans travel to Bodymoor Heath off the back of a hard-earned 0-0 draw with Wolves in the Premier League Cup earlier this week.

And Walsh has encouraged his team-mates to build on the momentum they gained from that result.

“Villa are a tough team, but all the boys are growing in confidence,” the 17-year-old said.

“We put in a good performance the other night against a strong Wolves side and we want to build on that.”

The Swans will be aiming to avenge the 5-1 defeat they suffered against Villa in Premier League South at the start of the month.

With changes likely to be made from that game, Walsh is optimistic about the Swans' chances of progressing.

The academy side are looking to at least match their performance in last season’s competition by reaching the fourth round.

“Anything can happen in a cup tie,” he added.

“We’ve got plenty of depth in our squad and there is always a lot of rotation.

“That will serve us well going into this game.

“You never know how far you can go in a cup competition but, if we can beat Villa, anything is possible for us.”
