Community Trust Inclusion

In celebration of World Mental Health Day on Saturday, we give you an insight into the work done in this area by Swansea City AFC Community Trust’s We Wear the Same Shirt project.

Launched by the FAW and supported by Time to Change Wales, the We Wear the Same Shirt initiative is aimed at those seeking to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

The project comprises of football sessions for adults of all ages and abilities, followed by opportunities for social interaction between the participants to promote positive wellbeing in a pressure-free, relaxed environment.

The Trust are very excited to be a part of this national campaign as it is set to make a positive change in communities across West Wales.

Iwan Jones – one of the coaches at the Trust – has played an integral part in developing the programme at Penlan Leisure Centre.

Despite suffering a brain illness, Iwan does not allow this to hold him back. As demonstrated in our accompanying video (click the play icon to view), he shows great commitment and professionalism each week as he plans and delivers high-quality sessions which support the development of the participants.

He also demonstrates fantastic people skills and engages very well with participants from a range of backgrounds.
