As the Swans get set to face Rotherham United on Saturday (3pm), we look back at some previous encounters between the clubs.

Here we recall past meetings in League One and Division Three.

Rotherham 1 Swans 2

League One – February 27, 2007

The Roberto Martinez era began in winning fashion as goals from Pawel Abbott and Lee Trundle gave Swansea City victory at Millmoor in 2007.

This was Martinez’s first game in charge of the Swans following his appointment as Kenny Jackett’s successor three days earlier.

Abbott opened the scoring inside 20 minutes before Trundle’s thunderous effort doubled their lead on the hour.

The Swans suffered a scare as Rotherham midfielder Martin Woods’s free-kick beat Willy Gueret late on, but Martinez’s men held on for the first of many victories.

Rotherham 2 Swans 2

League One – October 22, 2005

There was late heartbreak for Jackett’s Swans in 2005 as Millers striker Barry Conlon netted a last-gasp equaliser.

The Swans went behind late in the first half when Grant Leadbitter’s driven effort found the back of the net.

But the visitors were level less than 60 seconds later, as Leon Britton teed up Trundle for the striker’s 11th goal of the season.

Trundle then claimed an assist as on-loan QPR midfielder Marcus Bean netted his first Swans goal.

But Bean’s effort was cancelled out as striker Conlon scored deep into added time.

The Swans would go on to reach the League One play-off final that season, where they lost on penalties to Barnsley at the Millennium Stadium.

Rotherham 1 Swans 1

Division Three – May 6, 2000

A draw at Millmoor was enough to ensure John Hollins’ Swans side lifted the Third Division trophy on the final day of the 1999-2000 season.

The Swans and Rotherham, the two contenders for the title, faced each other in what proved to be a dramatic end to the campaign.

Defender Matthew Bound put the visitors in front from the penalty spot late on.

Rotherham’s Brian Wilsterman and Darren Garner were both shown red cards in the final few minutes before the hosts were awarded a penalty which was converted by substitute Lee Glover.

Hollins’s men held on for the draw they needed, but title celebrations were cut short as news broke that Swans fan Terry Coles had lost his life after being trampled by a police horse outside the stadium before the game.

Rotherham 2 Swans 3

Division Three – April 13, 1991

The Swans fought back from two goals down to beat Rotherham in an action-packed game in 1991.

The afternoon started badly for the Swans as Peter Duffield’s penalty and a goal from Neil Richardson put the hosts 2-0 up after just minutes.

But after a second-half red card for Millers defender Gerry Forrest, Frank Burrows’s Swans launched a memorable fightback.

Dave Penney made it 2-1 on 66 minutes, then Simon Davey levelled the scores six minute later.

Davey then claimed a thrilling winner in stoppage time.

The Swans went on to finish 20th in Division Three that season, just four points above the relegation zone.
