The Swans Community Trust is saddling up with BikeAbility Wales to deliver a series of cycling sessions for children with a disability this summer.

Running on July 21 and July 28 along with August 4, 11, 18 and 25 at Dunvant Rugby Club, the free cycling sessions will be delivered by both the Community Trust’s Inclusion project and local charity, BikeAbility Wales.

Founded in 2004 to make cycling more accessible to people with disabilities in South West Wales, the Dunvant-based charity has a large variety of specialist bicycles enabling them to provide cycling opportunities to people of all ages and levels of ability.

Their bicycles are each specifically designed to allow participants to experience the freedom and empowerment of physical activity in a sage, sociable and traffic-free environment, making them the perfect partner for our new venture.

“This is a really exciting initiative for the Trust and one which will allow families with disabled children the opportunity to do an activity together,” said Richard Jones, the Community Trust’s senior inclusion manager.

“Everyone knows that the benefits of cycling are huge and hopefully this will inspire families to get on their bikes, maybe for the first time."

The launch of these new sessions comes a year after BikeAbility were awarded a grant of £1,750 from the cub’s grant-giving pot - SwansAid.

“It is particularly exciting to be working with BikeAbility Wales as they are one of the charities we have supported in the past through our SwansAid grants,” added Jones.

This grant enabled the charity to purchase six specialist childrens’ bicycles, which have helped their participants to develop their cognitive, physical and social skills.

The sessions will run on each of the dates above from 10am-12pm for children aged 4+ at Dunvant Rugby Club, Broadcare, Killay, Swansea, SA2 7RU. Each space consists of one child along with a parent/guardian/sibling/guardian. All must be confident to ride alongside the child.

To book a session, please click HERE and chose which date(s) you would like to book before filling out and submitting the form. Upon booking, a member of the Community Trust will be on contact with you.
