Toshack: Let’s build on momentum

9th October

Cameron Toshack has called on Swansea City Under-21s to build on their momentum as they face Newport County in the Checkatrade Trophy at Rodney Parade on Tuesday (7.30pm).

Victory would see the young Swans qualify for the knockout stage of the competition following a 2-1 win over Cheltenham Town in their opening Group E South match in August.

The development side go into tomorrow’s game off the back of an impressive 6-0 win against Celtic in the International Cup last month.

And Toshack has urged the under-21s to match that performance against the Exiles, who they beat 2-1 in the trophy last season.

“We are in good condition at the moment,” Toshack said. “We came from behind and put in a good performance away at Cheltenham and will be looking to replicate that.

“Other results mean a win would see us progress to the knockout stage, so there is a lot to play for in this match.

“There’s no reason why our players shouldn’t be confident and happy with what they’ve produced this season.

“We’ve been unfortunate in the league once or twice but the important thing is to learn from those games.

“Newport will offer a tough test and will be a lot more organised this year, but it’s all a learning experience for our players and one they must take advantage of.”

Tickets can be purchased at Newport County's ticket office priced at £5 for adults & seniors, £3 for children & young adults (under 21).

Away supporters will need to go to the ticket hut at Gate 6 (off Corporation Road). Ticket purchases are CASH ONLY.
